Sage (Salvia officinalis) is a shrub, a perennial herbaceous plant 20-70 cm high, with an erect, branched, whitish, fluffy stem. The leaves are opposite petiolate, ligneous, oval, and grayish-green in color. The flowers are blue-violet, less often light pink or white, placed in rings in the upper spike-shaped inflorescences. The plant blooms in May and June. Fruits are four ovate-trihedral nuts. The fruits ripe in July-August.
